Day 4: Welcome to easyCruise One on Spetses Island, Greece (July 2007)
#4458
My new friends! Unsure where we're sailing to next, but it was all phenomenal. Wake up on a new island every day. Thank You easyCruise! Who cares where you're going when you're drinking Campari slushies with friends at sea!
A Campari slushie is a refreshing frozen drink with a signature bittersweet flavor that can be adapted from classic cocktails like the Negroni or Campari Spritz. The most straightforward versions blend Campari with citrus juice and ice.
Frozen Negroni
This popular slushie variation is a modern twist on the classic Italian cocktail.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups Campari
1 ½ cups gin
1 ½ cups sweet vermouth
1 cup fresh orange juice
8 cups ice
Orange slices for garnish
Instructions
Mix the Campari, gin, sweet vermouth, and orange juice in a pitcher and divide into two airtight containers.
Freeze the mixture for at least 8 hours, until it reaches a semi-frozen state.
When ready to serve, transfer one container of the frozen mixture to a blender along with 4 cups of ice.
Blend until thick and smooth, then pour into glasses and garnish with an orange slice.
Frozen Garibaldi
This simple, bright, and citrusy frozen drink is a play on the classic Campari and orange juice cocktail.
Ingredients
12 oz container of frozen orange juice concentrate
9 oz Campari
2 oz fresh lemon juice
¼ tsp kosher salt
4 cups ice
Orange wedges for garnish
Instructions
Combine the frozen orange juice concentrate, Campari, lemon juice, salt, and ice in a blender.
Blend just until a slushy consistency is achieved.
Divide the mixture among tall glasses and garnish each with an orange wedge.
Campari-Rosé Slush
For a drink with a lighter, fruitier profile, this slushie is a mashup of a frozen rosé and a frozen Negroni.
Ingredients
10 mint leaves
Frozen rosé wine
Grapefruit juice
Campari
Simple syrup
Ice
Instructions
In a blender, add the Campari, simple syrup, and mint leaves.
Add the frozen rosé, grapefruit juice, and ice.
Process until completely smooth, then pour into short glasses.
Garnish with a fresh mint leaf.
Preparation tips
For a thicker slush: For cocktails with higher alcohol content, consider freezing a portion of the liquid in advance to help achieve a thicker, colder texture.
Adjusting sweetness: Campari's bitterness can be balanced with extra simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink.
The right ice: Using smaller, crushed ice cubes instead of large ones will help you achieve a smoother consistency more easily.
For best blending: Add liquids to the blender before frozen ingredients to help the blending process.
