Top of the mornin' to ya! Wear GREEN. Have FUN. Enjoy!

Truly enjoyed "On the Road" -- a 2012 Brazilian-French drama film directed by Walter Salles -- adapted for film from the 1957 novel of the same name by Jack Kerouac. This nostalgic traveling with FUN friends (Neal Cassady, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, and their female friends), back in the late 1940s was featured as part of the CINEMATIC JOURNEYS Series hosted by the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. http://www.americancinemathequecalendar.com/content/on-the-road-cinematic-journeys

Oh la la! Next month, don't miss COLCOA: The French Film Festival | Apr 15–22, 2013 | at the Directors Guild of America Los Angeles, CA. http://www.colcoa.org/2013/home/index.asp

NAMM 2009 ROCKS ANAHEIM

Alice Cooper, Puddle of Mudd, Tommy Shaw (Styx) & Jack Blades (Night Ranger/Damn Yankees) were just a few of the major artists who performed at the Anaheim Convention Center & adjoining Hilton Hotel Stages for the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) 2009 Show.
Regardless of the world's economic woes, NAMM 2009 seemed to be a huge success.
Day 1 (Thursday Jan 15) may have been sparse, but by Day 2 (Friday Jan 16) it seemed as crowded as last year. Security was stricter and on Day 4 (Sunday Jan 18), unless you had a RED exhibitors pass, you could not get back in to the show for any reason after 5 p.m.
There's never enough time at NAMM because there's so much to see & do -- it's a challenge to visit more than the main floor. Each hall is devoted to a specialized area; for example, Hall D is DRUMS. And don't forget the basement & upper level showrooms with everything any musician could ever want or need.
This year, we wasted more time walking around lost because drums were in several halls & instruments sections were in NO logical order except by catalogue numbers.
Sadly, we missed Day 1 (Thursday Jan 15) after friends dissuaded us from coming down, saying it was dead; registration denied them confirmed badges AND there weren't any name acts booked due to the financial crisis.
So why bother fighting traffic just to endure a NAMM hassle? But once we were there, it was all good.
Arrived on Day 2 after Friday's 5 p.m. rush hour. Parked at the Hilton & bee-lined to the sounds of the tribal drum circle by the John Lennon Bus. Just missed ACDC drummer Chris Slade at the Convention Center Lobby Jam. It was too late to get the 'ID Badge,' but within minutes DonnaVision ran into several groups of friends & went to a rehearsal for tomorrow's show. Yeah, that's part of why DonnaVision & DrumTV loves NAMM; It's like a high school music vacation.
Partied in the room jamming on loud amps with exceptional musicians, dined downstairs with hundreds of friends at various tables. Excused myself from the table when I heard Iron Maiden covers in the lobby & it was like School of Rock with young kids playing amazingly well. See ROCK NATION VIDEO in DonnaVision Media Center Gallery. After dinner, saw Gary Hoey's Band play a private party at the Hilton, took a limo to Loffler's Fender Fret Fest where we saw more bands & brought the party back to the Hilton suites until security gave us a FINAL warning around 4 a.m. It's not a good party unless the cops come ;-)
Day 3 (Saturday Jan 17): Even with confirmed registration papers from months ago, the big bad bulldogs gave us a hard time before giving us our badges. Then you have to show a photo ID every time you use your badge. Are we having FUN yet. Wow! Kerry King of Slayer is signing autographs at the Marshall booth. Familiar faces are everywhere. Is there time to see some drums before, who's playing where? And it's like this for four days.
Alice Cooper was the hardest show to see. Coffin Cases had 1400 tickets for a 700 occupancy show; it's like that every year. And it was a great show. VIDEO soon. Looked around for Mr. Wild West Guitars, who was probably backstage with Mr. Cooper, then dashed downstairs to the Epiphone party featuring Puddle of Mudd. VIDEO soon.
The Hilton lobby bands rocked hundreds of us out to Maiden, Ozzy, and all our fave metal tunes until 2 a.m.. Then we stood around all wound up looking for the next party, which was two rooms upstairs with a Chris Slade ACDC video on TV overflowing with a loud standing room only party that never got busted!
Day 4 (Sunday Jan 18): Missed the 8 a.m. 'Best of Show' Breakfast' and kicked it outdoors by the John Lennon bus listening to a blues band play in the warm Santa Anaheim breeze [VIDEO soon]. Barely made it to see Lemmy of Motorhead at the Marshall booth at 2 p.m. Surprisingly, many people were focused on the big plasma TV's football games. Finally found Taylor Guitars upstairs & saw Tommy Shaw of Styx play guitar & sing with Jack Blades of NightRanger/Damn Yankees [VIDEO soon].
DonnaVision's NAMM 2009 highlight of show was playing pony-skinned bongos with sticks, accompanied by 3 pro-drummers & drawing in a crowd with a simple indian beat type song at Tycoon Percussion. How FUN was that ;-) The DonnaVision 'Best of Show' drum kit goes to OC Drums & Kotton Mouth King drummer/designer LouDog, who rolled his green golf cart drums into place on opening day & caused quite a stir, as told to DonnaVision. This 'golf cart drum set' comes complete with a built-in playstation & speakers to hear the drums, a moving awning to shield the sun & of course a vaporizer to keep the buzz burning [VIDEO soon].
Five-O'clock came too soon & once you leave the show, you can't get back in without a RED distributors badge, so we went back to Hilton bar, which was surprisingly empty. The small crowd [50 people] was at the 'new bar' with three tv's screens watching football. Finally saw Chris Slade for a minute! Wanted to say 'hi' to Mickey D of Motorhead the other day, but he was deeply engaged in a conversation with RATT.
It's rumoured that 2010 will be the final year of NAMM in Anaheim. If we missed you this year, hope to see you next year. And word from the DonnaVision peanut gallery is: Have the LIVE concert events in the laser light show auditorium in the last HALL where it looks like there's actual stadium seating for thousands. There's room for everyone & that's where the big blowout PARTY should be. Cheers!

PS -- REWARD: Garden of Eden Dan lost his camera with all his photos last night and is hoping 'someone' at least turns in the memory card. No questions asked. Thx!

New Year 2009 at Paramount with Katy Perry

GRIDLOCK: New Year's Eve 2008 RAVE starring Santa Barbara born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson aka Katy Perry in Hollywood
watertowergrid ferriswheelredltgrid mikeconfettigrid taxigrllgrid donnagrid katyhrid
Coney Island or Time Square West? Los Angeles had its own little New York style New Year's Eve extravaganza right here in the heart of Hollywood.
Sexy burlesque acts, ferris wheel rides, world famous DJ's & live entertainment: There was no shortage of confetti, electronika or security at Paramount Studios back-lot Gridlock New Year's Eve party 2008!
Several local radio stations banded together promoting the event & giving away FREE tickets, which cost $100 plus, depending what perks one wanted. For a price, you could walk the red carpet to the Central Park themed VIP area & for $10,000 you could have 'A Private Storefront Suite with room for up to 20 people' including heat!
It was a COLD night in Hollywood as a chilly fog blanketed the streets. Outdoors on the lot, a four-block area between the Windsor and Gower Gates was sectioned off featuring faux New York storefront buildings lit from inside and outdoor vendor stands selling pizza for $3 a slice. Thousands of party-goers strolled through one of the biggest NYE events in Los Angeles. The young hip 20s to 30s dress to impress crowd wore teeny dresses & high heels, which provided much Hollywood glamour.
The Winter Wonderland Rockefeller Center area offered FREE ferris wheel rides & SNOW to the beats of Top 40 and Mashup DJs -- DJ Coolwhip & DJ Audiomoe.
The Gotham City back alley electro area boasted top DJs, astonishing laser lights and sound including live performances by: Guns N Bombs; Pase Rock; Classixx; Chris White; & Colossal KNXN. I liked Pase Rock (Peace Rock?) because it sounded like Goth Burningman-type music with people dancing & a costumed stilt walker posing for photos while scarfing down some food.
There was plenty of entertainment at the Times Square Main Stage. Every so often a new act would appear: burlesque, comedy, sing-along music. Seth MacFarlance, creator/voice of Family Guy, prepared a special skit between Stewie & Brian Griffin. Prior to the much awaited countdown & Katy Perry performance, a FUN comedy band did sing-along songs like: It's Los Angeles, bitch. No one works .... everyone plays all day. And: "I'm not a whore."
As the midnight hour approached, we headed back towards main stage where we became engulfed in the masses. It was too romantic being surrounded by tobacco smoke & tonsillectomy procedures, so we made it back to the safety of the sidewalk & brownstone steps where people were already falling down drunk & barfing.
Grammy-Nominated Pop Princess Katy Perry wore a darling dress of sparkles & feathers, but tried too hard being vulgar with an f-this & an f-that. She led the countdown then shouted, "Happy f---ing New Year, everyone!"
Confetti blasted down from above, then Perry broke out her latest hit, "Hot N'Cold," "Waking Up In Vegas," & had everyone singing to her debut hit single, "I Kissed A Girl." She's cute with a good voice & reminds me of a Pop Joan Jett. The kids love her & it was over way before 12:30. So what more could you want! Cheers http://www.gridlockla.com/nye/event.html ... http://www.katyperry.com

So CAL Loves Metallica, says Hetfield!

metallicajamesontario metallicaulrichontario metallicakirk
Another night of mayhem with metal gods, Metallica. Tonight & last night at the LA Forum plus last week at Ontario Citizens Bank Arena -- each venue sporting a revolving stage with drummer Lars Ulrich in the center perched on a pedestal surrounded by flame throwing pyro machines spewing out multi-color fire explosions as James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett & Robert Trujillo took their own corners playing to fans and constantly moving to give every angle face time. Giant coffins flooded with colors came down from the sky projecting crucifixes on fans in the pit. Laser lights added more visual drama.
The two-hour-plus sets opened with new songs from Death Magnetic, which have all the energy and power Metallica fans have come to expect. Hetfield looks happy, healthy and sounds better than ever. It's nice when he talks to the crowd & communicates. Los Angeles is one of the toughest crowds to play for & last nights gig had to be a little draining.
Yes, we came to kill our voices, brains & all our energy, Hetfield said. Will you give us all your energy. Metallica sure gave us theirs. And it looked reciprocal. Party people in the pit were moshing & everyone was singing along rockin' everywhere. What a great week it's been. The Death Magnetic Tour & all the new songs on the album are just as hard, fast & magnetic as the old Metallica -- yes, way back. Which is why we love the old songs. And the set list is a little different each time. Lars Ulrich is one badass mutherf'n drummer who gives a punishing workout every night on his Tama's. Last night was celebrity nite at the Forum. Tonight was another OMG great show. A few nights ago, the Ontario Arena -- each night was a sold out packed show even in last nights rain. The Ontario show wins the DonnaVision vote mostly because the crowd was so much more appreciative & demonstrative, which Hetfield & the guys feel & reflect back. Always a FUN show all the way to the balls out giant kickball fest. Yes, we will see Metallica again soon. Sweet dreams, Jesus. Happy B-Day. Photos in DonnaVision Gallery ... http://www.metallica.com

ACDC Rock LA Forum/Cheech & Chong Light Up America

ACDCCoverShot ACDCAYoung ACDCForumShow It started with a bang, ended with a bang and was a total smokin' show -- one of the best I've seen! ACDC gave LA fans an explosive two-hour extravaganza performance at The Forum in Inglewood and my ears are still ringing Hell's Bells. Don't know where these cats get their energy from, but it was a great show in totality [photos in DonnaVision Media Center Gallery]. Amazing sound, lighting and fun visuals including pyrotechnic cannons & a blow-up tattoo mama doll stradeling ACDC's "Runaway Train," the new hit they burst open the set with from their latest album Black Ice. Really love "War Machine" -- one of my other fave new ACDC tunes. Each song had its own visual plus insane solos & priceless antics from guitar hero/performer extraordinaire Angus Young, brother guitarist Malcolm Young & bassist Cliff Williams. LIVE shows rarely match the album sound and tonight's show was truly unique. So don't expect it to sound like last century's recordings. It's a little mellower and vocalist Brian Johnson sounds really great, but it's ... mellower! Drummer Phil Rudd didn't miss a beat, banged out a great set & kept it original, yet I can't help wishing Chris Slade would have been on drums. Hundreds of audience members at tonight's SOLD OUT SHOW wore glowing red devil-horns, which added to the psychadelic eye-candy display, including a giant tower stage where Angus did one of several outrageous solos and so much more. Do not miss the Black Ice Tour when ACDC comes to your town ... http://www.acdcrocks.com ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JH-dPEs6jnc&feature=related ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPHDgDRcbDQ&feature=related

After ACDC's encore we bolted to Gibson Amphitheater at Universal City Walk to see Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong "Light Up America" LIVE. Thank GOD they went on late. This was their second show of the night at 10:45 p.m. Of course a bunch of stoners are going to show up late! Cheech & Chong took turns playing various comedy skits in different costumes & characters, playing guitar, singing and doing ensemble skits each with a plasma screen visual. In one skit, Cheech & Chong were dogs on all fours sniffing each other with a picture of a park, trees & a fire hydron behind them. Cheech made several political statements about marijuana & his misadventures in jail from the pipe bust, which the crowd applauded and loved. Ironically, narcs wearing Santa hats took people' s pipes away. Sure smelled good ;-) http://www.cheechandchongtour.com

CrueTakeBow ">VN@palladium ">TL@Piano TommyCrue n6Crue vnmc debbie&donna
Mötley Crüe & support band The Last Vegas completed their 2008 World Tour at the Hollywood Palladium on Nov 14. to a mob scene sold out $100+ per ticket crowd. Special thanks to KLOS & Rock DJ Tony Scott for our tickets ... in memory of Hanoi Rocks former member Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley (Vince Neils' friend & passenger who died in the 1984 car crash).
The Last Vegas played a good set, but the next band, who were introduced as LA Steel Drum Core band chosen by Tommy Lee, were given a chance but then were continuously booed by an impatient crowd who came to see Motley Crue!
The crushed in crowd seemed motlier, since we were close to front center with hundreds or thousands of people pushing, shoving & fighting their way to the stage; it was amazing there were no fatalities. It took forever for Crue to take the stage, but from the moment the black net curtain dropped to the closing bow, Crue was in rare form -- PHOTOS in DonnaVision Media Center Gallery ;-)
Looking & sounding as good as ever, the whole original Crue lineup (Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx & Mick Mars) gave Hollywood hometown fans just what we came for -- a Muther F***in' great show! Vince Neil reminisced about playing here at the Palladium back in the day, mentioning Theatre of Pain & his departed friend, Razzle. Tommy Lee came out & talked to the crowd, which was really cool, esp. because his drum kit was so far back on stage; like, who could see him. Why wasn't he on a platform with his drums? And how much more would it have cost Live Nation to have the girl$ in cages, which really adds to the show. Instead, porn-type videos played on the big screen.
But it was a banner show. So much FUN! And Crue did not disappoint.
Loved all the songs including: Looks That Kill, Shout At The Devil .... Neil's tease "everybody raise your right hand" motorcycle rev intro to Girls, Girls, Girls; Tommy Lee playing piano on the encore intro to Home Sweet Home. Motley Crue, you are the Saints of Los Angeles.
Happy Holidays & see you next Crue Tour, when Saints of Los Angeles 2009 starts Feb. 2 in San Diego.

WHO? at The Troubadour in West Hollywood!

WHOPeteT WHOMikeC WHOEels

Spawned from an Internet music chat show, "In The Attic" showcased at The Troubadour starring classically trained musician Rachel Fuller & her life partner Pete Townshend.
Yeah, the line was long & it took forever for anyone to even start to move; people tried not to complain for like at least an hour ... but eventually, it was well worth the wait. Wow! What an incredible night seeing Pete Townshend of The WHO sing, play guitar & tell funny stories ... yes, even about politics & change & our new leader elect of the free world. And to experience all this in as intimate a setting as The Troubadour in West Hollywood. Historic!
Fuller opened the set, playing guitar & singing with her amazingly beautiful rock operatic voice.
And with each new solo guest artist -- an angel fairy princess with witty sarcastic loner love tunes playing piano & singing her tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You;" E of the Eels [Mark Oliver Everett], playing guitar & singing sing-a-longs; Michael Campbell (Tom Petty's lead guitarist); Mikey Cuthbert; Joe Purdy; Billy Corgan; Jakob Dylan, Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie -- each joined by Townshend for a duet, a trio, & ultimately a group encore. Acoustic. For a moment, I thought Roger Daltrey was going to walk downstairs & join the gang onstage.
I love the Troubadour, but folks, this was not your average night. Special thanks to KLOS & Best Buy for allowing us the privilege of experiencing a rock legend play tunes with such a new & fresh lineup. And it was taped, so y'all will get an opportunity to see what I'm talking about.
I'm talking ... 2008 & Pete Townshend of the Who playing & singing "The Acid Queen" at the Troubadour in Hollywood. C'mon! After repeated guitar cable challenges & genuine moments that should be etched in the brain's mainframe ... how hillarious & real to restart songs when you want, not fake it when you forget the words -- just make them up & plain old have fun with new & old fans ... er, friends. If only the camera man didn't keep knocking the lyrics off the stand. Did I mention how Townshend totally rocked out on guitar. Next stop: The Nokia Theatre (tomorrow & Sunday too).
Interesting music, lyrics, vibe -- thank you for an x-tra special evening. Grateful thanks & Happy Birthday to Michael -- the luckiest KLOS fan in the world. Photos in DonnaVision Media Center.

*Update: Large Hadron Collider Broke Down!

After only nine days, $8 Billion & much expectation, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN Laboratories near Geneva, Switzerland was shut down on Friday
after an electrical glitch sparked a large helium leak inside the machine's tunnels. The LHC was switched on Sept. 10, and now scientists & the rest of the world
must wait until Spring 2009 for the hugest physics experiment in human history to continue. The LHC is a giant proton smasher expected to re-create the conditions
of the Big Bang theory & help to explain the creation of our universe. This minor snafu is nothing compared with a 3% chance the machine will create a black hole
& suck us all in (NOT). Hopefully, we'll find the Higgs bosen particle aka the GOD particle, which may help us to understand mass, matter & the mystery of nature.

Now, on a serious note: US Election Day is only weeks away. Does Bush really have the power to declare Martial Law & use the Patriot Act (or some Presidential Directive he's endorsed into our constitution) to suspend elections, declare an election void & maintain his position?
WORD on the WWW: YES, under the provisions of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, he can declare a state of emergency and postpone elections indefinitely. Those of you who don't believe this, look it up! But no, it's not the Patriot Act. There is another act that was passed last year that also covers succession "in case of emergency," but I can't remember the name of it right now. [mommanuke]
Yes, it is buried in fine print like a rider. The latter two are not acts, but Presidential Directives:
National Security Presidential Directive 51 & Homeland Security Presidential Directive 20; They are usually grouped together under NSPD51
Perhaps the Leader of the House, Nancy Pelosi, would be acting president until a president would be chosen.

Inside the Martial Law Act of 2006
By JAMES BOVARD
Martial law is perhaps the ultimate stomping of freedom. And yet, on September 30, 2006, Congress passed a provision in a 591-page bill that will make it easy for President Bush to impose martial law in response to a terrorist "incident." It also empowers him to effectively declare martial law in response to what he or other federal officials label a shortfall of "public order" -- whatever that means ....
There is nothing to prevent a president from declaring martial law on false pretexts -- any more than there is to prevent him from launching a foreign war on false pretenses. And when the lies become exposed years later, it could be far too late to resurrect lost liberties.
James Bovard serves as a policy advisor for The Future of Freedom Foundation and is the author of Attention Deficit Democracy, The Bush Betrayal, Terrorism and Tyranny, and other books.

Ever hear of The Patriots? WATCH this Illuminati conspiracy theory video: 2012, money, military, war, religion, the occult, the Masons, the Patriot Act, Bush's ancestral bloodline to British monarchy, the Knights Templar, etc. It's long -- I was only 41 minutes into it when it addressed using "food as a weapon" & "how to kill 3 BILLION peeps by 2009 with FDA enforced milk, floride in water, etc .... ENJOY!

NOW, here's a thought for getting our nation/world back on track: Take the money allotted for Defense contractors [who have been getting rich off of the military industrial complex, instead of the American workers], and put those fund$ towards rebuilding our own country -- all those workers who were no longer working for defense contractors can work for the companies that work to rebuild our country.
AND do it environmentally-conscious GREEN.
